This simple assembly sits at the bottom of your toilet tank and controls the release of water into the bowl when you press the handle. How a Flush Valve Works
The flush valve consists of two main parts: the valve seat (a brass or plastic ring sealed to the tank bottom) and the flapper or canister that covers it. When you press the flush handle, the lift chain pulls the flapper off the seat, releasing the tank water into the bowl through a 2-inch or 3-inch opening. Once the tank empties, the flapper drops back onto the seat, seals it, and the fill valve refills the tank for the next flush.
Standard residential toilets use a 2-inch flush valve, while many newer high-efficiency models use a 3-inch or even 4-inch valve to move more water faster with less overall volume. Replacing the Entire Flush Valve Assembly
