Granite is sold as nearly indestructible, and then a single drop of olive oil sits overnight and leaves a permanent dark spot that no spray cleaner will lift. Removing granite stains is not about scrubbing harder; it is about identifying which type of stain you have, then drawing the contaminant back out of the stone with a chemical-specific poultice. Identify the Stain Before You Treat It
Granite is porous, even when sealed, and different contaminants discolor it in different ways. Misdiagnosing the stain is why most DIY attempts fail.

The Universal Poultice Method
A poultice is an absorbent material mixed with a stain-specific chemical, troweled over the stain, covered with plastic, and left to draw the stain back up into itself as it dries.
