Identify and Stop the Water Source

Common culprits include roof leaks that follow rafters to unexpected locations, plumbing leaks behind walls, condensation from poorly insulated HVAC ducts, and flashing failures around windows. Cutting Out the Damaged Section

Installing the Drywall Patch

Measure the opening and cut a replacement piece of drywall to fit. Score the front paper with a utility knife along a straightedge, snap the board along the score, and then cut the back paper. The patch should fit snugly with no more than a 1/8-inch gap on any side.
