How to Unstrip a Screw: 9 Pro Tricks That Work Every Time

A stripped Phillips head will burn through 20 minutes of patience before you even reach for the toolbox. Knowing how to unstrip a screw is one of those quiet skills that separates a smooth weekend project from a Sunday-night Home Depot run. Most stripped screws can be removed in under five minutes with items already in your garage, and the rest yield to a $12 extractor set you should own anyway. Why Screws Strip in the First Place

Corroded screws need chemistry, not muscle. Spray PB Blaster, Kroil, or Liquid Wrench around the threads, wait 15 minutes, and tap the head lightly with a hammer to vibrate the oil down the shank.
