The second mistake is skipping the expansion gap so there is nowhere for the bar’s foot to fit, which tempts people to pry against the finished surface. Always keep the 1/4-inch to 3/8-inch gap the manufacturer calls for. The third is using a pull bar with a burr or sharp edge on the foot; run a file over any rough spot, because that burr will scratch the top of every plank it touches.
