Over weeks and months they stack up into the chalky, crusty layer known as limescale. The harder your water, the faster it forms. Homes on well water or in regions with mineral-rich municipal supplies, much of the Southwest and Midwest, see it worst.
Because the deposits are alkaline mineral salts, a mild acid neutralizes and dissolves them. White vinegar, with its acetic acid, is the cheapest weapon you own. For mineral spots or water marks on natural stone, use only a stone-safe, pH-neutral cleaner formulated for marble and granite.
