Suite, Club, and Office Areas

Premium suites use commercial-grade carpet tiles, hardwood, and luxury vinyl tile depending on the design language. Major brands include Shaw Contract, Mohawk Group, and Interface for carpet tile, with pricing $2.50-$8 per sq ft for product alone.

Hospitality areas often use natural stone (granite, limestone) or large-format porcelain tile in 24×48 or 48×48 sizes for a modern luxury read.

Modular Tile Systems: The Flexible Option

Installation Considerations

Lowest 20-year total cost typically goes to rubber or polished concrete; highest to carpet tile.

Sustainability and LEED Considerations

Vulcanized rubber from recycled tire content qualifies for MRc4 and MRc5 LEED credits. Several major manufacturers offer Cradle to Cradle certification on rubber lines. LVT is harder to certify but Interface and Tarkett both offer products with significant recycled content.

Polished concrete uses the existing slab and consumes minimal new material — often the most sustainable choice when the concrete is already in place.

Specifying Architect Considerations

Major flooring manufacturers (Tarkett, Mondo, Mannington Commercial) offer specification support including CAD drawings, BIM models, and installation method statements. Specifying architects should engage manufacturer reps during DD (design development) phase, not after construction documents are finalized.

Sample boards in actual lighting conditions before committing — what reads as gray under fluorescent showroom lighting may read as green under arena LED, and color matching across zones gets harder once boxes start arriving.

  • Skipping moisture testing on suspended slabs over parking — common failure mode
  • Choosing cheapest acceptable wear layer in concourses — fails by year 8-10

  • Specifying products without verifying installer certification and availability

Choosing the Right Mix

Stadium flooring procurement is a portfolio decision, not a single-product call. A typical 100,000 sq ft arena uses six to ten different flooring products across its zones. Get a flooring consultant or specifying architect involved early — the cost of bad zone choices compounds over the 20-year asset life of the building, and corrective replacement after construction runs 3-5x the cost of correct initial specification.
