Ceiling Fan Shaking Dangerous: Complete Guide for Homeowners

A ceiling fan should wobble no more than 1/8 inch at the blade tip during normal operation. Tighten Blade Screws and Inspect Brackets

Each blade attaches to the motor with a blade iron (sometimes called a blade arm) using 2 to 4 screws. Vibration loosens these screws over years of use. Use a Phillips screwdriver to snug each one — do not overtighten or you will strip the threads in cheap stamped metal blade irons.
