- 300D polyester: Lighter and cheaper, fine for indoor storage where you mostly need dust and rodent protection.
- Vinyl / PVC: Fully waterproof and tough, but it doesn’t breathe. On a machine put away damp, trapped condensation causes surface rust. If you go vinyl, only cover a bone-dry, cooled machine.
For outdoor or unheated storage, 600D polyester with a waterproof PU coat and UV treatment is the sweet spot — waterproof enough, breathable enough.

Outdoors, the cover fights driving snow, ice, and months of UV, so you want heavy 600D polyester, sealed seams, and real tie-downs. Never seal a hot or wet machine under any cover; let the engine cool and wipe off snowmelt first, or you’ll steam it into rust from the inside.
Why a Cover Beats Bare Storage

Care and Longevity
A cover is cheap, but a little care doubles its life. Shake off snow load before it packs into ice — the weight can pull grommets out. Hose off road salt and grit at season’s end, let it dry completely draped over a rail, and store it folded in a dry bin, not stuffed damp in the shed. Check the elastic hem and straps each fall; sun-baked elastic is the first thing to fail.
