Topical coloring — acid stains, water-based stains, and dyes — is the other route, applied to cured concrete instead of mixed in. The high-level comparison:

  • Depth and durability: integral color wins outright — full-depth, wear-proof, UV-stable. Acid stain penetrates only the top ~1/16 inch; dyes sit shallower still and want UV protection.
