Secure the track to the header with the provided hardware, checking level at three points along the rail.
Hanging the Door
Attach the roller hardware to the top edge of the door slab. Most kits use two adjustable hangers with nylon wheels that ride in the overhead track. Lift the door into the track by tipping it into the opening and engaging the rollers one at a time. This step is easier with two people since even a hollow-core door becomes awkward to maneuver into an overhead track solo.
Adjust the roller height so the door hangs 1/2 inch above the finished floor. Turn the adjustment screws on each hanger to raise or lower each side independently. The door should hang plumb with equal gaps on both sides. Install the floor guide at the bottom of the door opening, centering it so the door slides into the pocket without rubbing the split studs or swinging side to side.
Finishing with Drywall and Trim
Apply 1/2-inch drywall over the split studs on both sides of the pocket wall. Use short drywall screws (1-inch or 1-1/4 inch) to avoid puncturing through the split studs and scratching the door face inside the pocket. Standard 1-5/8 inch drywall screws are too long and will damage the door. Mark the stud locations before hanging drywall so you know exactly where to place screws.
Tape, mud, and sand the drywall joints as you would any wall. Install door casing trim around the opening on both sides. A pocket door uses a split jamb system where the strike-side jamb doubles as the door stop. Install the provided edge pull hardware on the door face so you can grip the door when it is fully recessed. Common Installation Mistakes
