Little Black Ants in Bathroom: Complete Guide for Homeowners

Finding a trail of little black ants in bathroom tiles, around the toilet base, or marching along the tub edge is a sign of one specific thing: a moisture source they have found and adopted. Ants in the kitchen are after food. Ants in the bathroom are after water. Solving the problem long-term means identifying which species you have, finding the leak or condensation pulling them in, and using bait correctly rather than spraying everything you see.

Identifying Which Ant You Are Dealing With

Three species account for almost every bathroom infestation in the US. Little black ants (Monomorium minimum) are 1/16 inch long, glossy black, and move in slow steady trails. Odorous house ants (Tapinoma sessile) are 1/8 inch, dark brown to black, and smell like rotten coconut when crushed.
