Residential Concrete Driveway: Specifications, Cost, and Long-Term Care

A properly poured concrete driveway lasts 30 to 50 years with minimal maintenance. A bad pour cracks within the first winter and looks tired in five. The difference comes down to a handful of specifications that most homeowners never ask about, and a few contractor shortcuts that destroy long-term durability. Base Preparation Is Everything

The single biggest determinant of driveway longevity is what sits under the concrete. A 4-inch driveway on a poor base will fail before a 3-inch driveway on a properly prepared base. Standard residential preparation:
