Small porcelain mosaics, typically 1×1-inch or 2×2-inch squares mounted on mesh backing, are the most popular shower floor tile for good reason. Their small size allows them to follow the slope toward the drain without creating lippage. The numerous grout lines add traction. And porcelain’s water absorption rate below 0.5 percent makes it ideal for constant water exposure.
Mosaic porcelain tiles come in countless colors, patterns, and finishes. Choose a matte or textured finish rather than polished for maximum grip. Expect to pay $5 to $20 per square foot for quality mosaic porcelain.
Pebble Tile
Natural pebble tiles, made from river stones mounted on mesh sheets, create a spa-like shower floor with excellent traction. The rounded stone surfaces and deep grout lines between pebbles provide natural grip, even when wet. Pebble tile feels pleasant underfoot and adds an organic, relaxed aesthetic.
