How to Use UV Light on Mold Correctly

If UV is the right tool for a small, accessible job, do it properly:

  1. Fix the moisture first. Find and repair the leak, lower humidity below 50 percent, and improve ventilation. Nothing else works until this is done.
  2. Clean the surface. Physically remove visible mold from non-porous surfaces with appropriate cleaning, since UV does not dissolve residue.
  3. Treat directly and patiently. Hold or position the UV-C source close to and aimed straight at the surface for the full recommended time, moving methodically so every spot gets direct light.
