Floor Vents
Measure and cut the opening carefully. The vent cover should rest on top of the laminate, not on the subfloor. This keeps the expansion gap hidden.
Step 8: Install the Last Row
The last row usually needs to be ripped to width. Measure the gap between the last installed row and the wall at several points (walls are rarely perfectly straight). Transfer these measurements to the plank, accounting for the 1/4-inch expansion gap. Cut with a table saw or circular saw with a guide.
Use a pull bar to engage the click-lock on the last row since there is no room to swing a tapping block. Hook the pull bar over the plank edge and tap the other end with a hammer to close the joint.
Step 9: Install Transitions and Trim
Transition Strips
Where laminate meets other flooring types or at doorways, install transition strips:
- T-molding: Used where two floating floors of equal height meet.
