Why Concrete Is Both Ideal and Dangerous

As a platform, cured concrete is excellent: hard, quiet, dimensionally stable, and flatter than many wood-framed floors. The danger is vapor. Concrete is a sponge — ground moisture migrates up through slabs continuously, even through slabs that look and feel bone dry. Laminate’s HDF core is compressed wood fiber that swells irreversibly when it absorbs that vapor.
