At the heart of that drainfield sits the leach line pipe, the perforated distribution piping that lets effluent percolate into the surrounding soil. Slope and Distribution
The Uniform Plumbing Code calls for laterals to slope no more than 2 to 4 inches per 100 feet for gravity-fed systems. Steeper slopes cause effluent to flow downhill rather than distribute evenly, concentrating biological load at the far end and shortening lifespan dramatically.
