Most residential windows last 15 to 30 years, but some materials can push well past 40 years with proper care. How Long Does Window Glass Last

An IGU consists of two or three panes of glass separated by a spacer and sealed at the edges with an airtight sealant. The space between panes is filled with air or argon gas for insulation.
Most IGU seals last 15 to 25 years before they begin to fail. When the seal breaks, moisture enters the space between panes, creating a foggy or hazy appearance that you cannot clean away. Factors That Shorten Window Lifespan
Several conditions accelerate window wear regardless of material quality.
Direct sun exposure on south and west-facing walls heats frames and glass unevenly, stressing seals and causing more thermal expansion. Windows on these exposures typically fail 3 to 5 years earlier than north-facing windows in the same home. Coastal environments with salt air corrode aluminum frames and degrade sealants faster. High humidity climates promote wood rot and mold growth on frames that are not properly sealed.
Poor installation is another major factor. Windows that were not shimmed, leveled, and flashed correctly from the start allow water intrusion behind the frame, which rots the rough opening framing and the window frame from the outside in. How to Extend the Life of Your Windows
