Tile installation has always been the slowest, messiest, and most physically demanding part of any flooring renovation. RevoTile is Daltile’s answer to that problem: a true porcelain tile bonded to a high-density polymer core with a click-lock edge profile, designed to install over almost any subfloor without thinset, backer board, or even traditional grout work. It launched in 2019 and has expanded steadily, with a current lineup of more than 40 SKUs across wood-look, stone-look, and concrete-look visuals in 12 by 24 inch and 24 by 48 inch formats.
What Makes RevoTile Different
Conventional porcelain tile is roughly 8 to 10 millimeters thick and bonded to substrate with modified thinset mortar that takes 24-48 hours to cure. RevoTile sandwiches a 4 millimeter porcelain wear layer on top of a 6 millimeter rigid composite core, total thickness about 10 millimeters with the integrated underlayment. The click edges interlock like a luxury vinyl plank, and Daltile’s StainProof injection-molded micro-grout fills the 1/16 inch joint at install time without a separate grouting step.
The result is a floor that walks like a porcelain tile, looks like one in person, and installs in about a third of the time. A two-person crew can lay 400 square feet a day, compared to roughly 150 square feet for traditional thinset tile.

Daltile publishes full technical data for every RevoTile collection. The wear surface is true Class 4 PEI porcelain with a water absorption rate below 0.5 percent, meeting ASTM C373 for vitreous tile. The dynamic coefficient of friction (DCOF) ranges from 0.42 to 0.55 depending on the texture, which clears the ANSI A137.1 0.42 threshold for wet interior floors in residential and most commercial settings.

Pricing and Where to Buy
RevoTile typically retails at $4.99 to $6.99 per square foot at Floor and Decor and Daltile dealers, with the premium 24 by 48 inch concrete-look planks running $7.49 to $8.49. That puts it above standard porcelain tile, which averages $2 to $4 per square foot in the same visual class, but well below the installed cost once you factor in labor. A typical mortar-set porcelain install runs $7 to $14 per square foot for materials and labor combined. RevoTile finished costs land closer to $9 to $11 per square foot installed, or much less for confident DIYers.
Subfloor Requirements
Daltile approves RevoTile installation over plywood, OSB, concrete slabs, existing vinyl, ceramic tile, and even some hardwood floors. The subfloor must be flat to within 3/16 inch over a 10-foot span, which is the same flatness specification as luxury vinyl plank. Concrete slabs should test below 5 lb per 1,000 sq ft per 24 hours on a calcium chloride test (ASTM F1869) or 80 percent RH on an in-situ probe (ASTM F2170). Heavy moisture issues still require a separate moisture mitigation system before installation.
Installation Walkthrough
The plank arrives 7/16 inch thick with the underlayment pre-attached, so no separate foam pad is needed. Acclimate the boxes flat on the floor for 48 hours at 65-85 degrees F. Plan your layout with a 1/4 inch expansion gap around the perimeter and against any vertical surfaces, including pipe penetrations.
Start in a corner and click each piece into the previous one at a 20 degree angle, then drop flat. A rubber mallet and tapping block from Daltile (model RTAB-1, about $35) seat the joints without chipping the porcelain edges. Cuts are made with a wet saw using a 7-inch porcelain blade like the MK Diamond 167024 ($79). Snap cutters and angle grinders work for straight cuts but produce more dust and rougher edges.
RevoTile vs LVP vs Traditional Porcelain
RevoTile sits in a unique middle ground. It outperforms luxury vinyl plank in scratch resistance, heat tolerance, and visual realism because it is real porcelain on the wear surface. It loses to traditional mortared porcelain in two areas: long-term grout integrity in wet zones like steam showers, and zero-tolerance flatness applications. The pre-grouted joints are sealed and stain-resistant, but they cannot be re-grouted if damaged. For full bath floors that see standing water from a soaker tub or open shower, Daltile still recommends a traditional thinset and grout install with a Schluter-Kerdi membrane.
For kitchens, mudrooms, entryways, basements, and three-piece guest baths, RevoTile is the easier, faster, and arguably better choice.
Common Issues and How to Avoid Them
The most reported problem is edge chipping during install. The porcelain wear layer is brittle, and dropping a tile from waist height onto a hard subfloor will crack the joint profile. Carry planks vertically and lower them into place. The second issue is uneven subfloors causing joint flex and eventual creaking. Spend the extra two hours leveling the substrate with self-leveling compound (Henry 555, $32 per 40 lb bag at Home Depot) before you start laying tile. Skipping that step accounts for the majority of warranty calls.
Who Should Choose RevoTile
Homeowners replacing carpet or vinyl in a main living area where a true porcelain look is the goal but a traditional mortar install is not realistic — that is the sweet spot. DIYers with luxury vinyl experience can install RevoTile over a weekend in a 200 square foot room. Contractors charging by the square foot can compete with LVP pricing while delivering a porcelain product. It is not a magic bullet for wet-zone showers, but for everywhere else, RevoTile genuinely changes the install math.
Maintenance and Long-Term Care
RevoTile cleans the same way any porcelain floor does. Dry sweep or vacuum on a hard floor setting weekly, and damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner like Bona Stone, Tile and Laminate ($10 per 32 oz spray) or Black Diamond Marble and Tile Cleaner. Avoid acidic cleaners like vinegar, lemon, and bleach-heavy formulas; they will not damage the porcelain face but can degrade the pre-installed micro-grout strip over years of repeated exposure. Daltile sells a touch-up grout pen for the pre-grouted joints if they ever get scuffed in heavy traffic. With basic care, RevoTile should easily outlast the 25-year mark in a residential setting.
